Why you shouldn’t stand below a tree during heavy rain

This was taken right in front of my house after a thunderstorm. Believe it when people say you shouldn’t stand below a tree during heavy rain.

China cuts domestic petrol prices

Jan 15, 2007 in Mumblings

Unlike China, Malaysia will only revise price upwards….rather than following the market. When will we see “Malaysia cuts domestic petrol prices” on our newspapers’ headlines? Probably never. It’s kinda sad to see Malaysians fight when petrol prices went up, but kept quiet when global prices went down.

IF Malaysians do protest for a downwards revision, guess what our Government will say?

“Global prices down… we are not making as much money as we used to… so we cant subsidies for rakyat…”

Found their lair

Jan 05, 2007 in Tips, Mumblings

This  follow up to my previous post on my white ants problem. We finally located their “home”, which is in our storeroom. It looks so disgusting and with my very limited vocabulary, I couldn’t find a word to describe what I saw. First up, is a photo of my storeroom after removing all the ‘junk’…

Store room

ya… i know, it looks bad. Wondering how much stuff we kept in there? Here is just 70% of them!!

Junk!

Well, I think it is about them we clean them up. Chinese New Year is coming anyway. Somehow, it is a good thing this happen, if not my dad would be keeping his ‘important stuff’ for another 10 years. There are some casualties, for example a lot of our photos were damage (another reason why we should keep the negatives or scan and upload to a RELIABLE server or Gmail archive them).

The tips of the day? Clean you store room yearly and put some pesticide which is effective against termites!

Kelantan women to cover up or get fine

Dec 06, 2006 in Philosophy, Funny, Mumblings

Pui!!! That was my reaction after reading the news on “No Sexy Dressing“.
Sexy Girl

Seriously, what are guys at The Kota Baru Municipal Council (MPKB) thinking? How can you put the responsible to woman when they get rape because of “indecent dressing”. So I guess now enforcers in Kelantan will be spending more time checking out girls dressing indecently rather than reducing crime.

I would like to congratulate MPKB for their entry to Malaysia’s Book of Records under the category: “Most Sohai Law“.

I hope the people who proposed and supported this law to stay WHERE they are. Don’t go Miami Beach, anywhere near Thailand, the streets of Brazil or even Perhentian right here in Malaysia. Why? Because they won’t be able to control themselves and start raping those girls who are dressing what they want. Having this law is like telling the world Malaysian man can’t handle the heat. And 2007 is suppose to be Visit Malaysia Year. Will any woman dares visit a country with man who rape because how a woman dress?

Luckily right here in Petaling Jaya, we have a more mature society. Women organizations are outrage.

Can you guys imagine, immature and ridiculous guys in this PAS-led government (current Kelantan government) introducing this kinda law? the same people who wants to run this country? How can they lead this country and face the world if they can’t even control their testosterone?

Michael Backman critic Malaysia, unfortunately I agree…

Nov 22, 2006 in Mumblings, Racial Discrimination

My sister show me an article today. Michael Backman, an internationally renowned writer and columnist wrote an article “While Malaysia fiddles, its opportunities are running dry” which was published on TheAge. My sister read the article 3 times I think, each time… getting more disappointed with the country which we were born and grown up in. More and more Malaysian, especially the younger generations now know more about our country, thanks to a wonderful and unrestricted tool… the Internet. The article mention about how the Malaysia Government calculate the 30 percent corporate equity to be in Malay hands, yes… the NEP… which was suppose to expire decade(s) ago. The recent figure released by the Government is 18.9%. They then justify the extension of NEP with this figure.

18.9%? BULLSZZzzzzZ.

Want to know more about NEP and how my Government use kids algorithm to get this value? The person who comes out with this figure should be FIRED!!! Anyway, more about this can be found at MalaysiaKini.com.

He also wonders why Malaysian are so proud of our Twin Towers when we have almost nothing to do with it. Yes yes… it wasn’t built or design by Malaysians…Suria KLCC is not run by Malaysians…. but then again, seeing it on Malaysian land does make me feel proud of those towers. Although most of my foreigner friends still can’t tell where is Malaysia.

Then, there is the first Malaysian in space hype. I do remember seeing a competition on the newspaper when they were looking for a candidate. The competition is open to all Malaysian… but even then, it wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to know the candidate WILL be a Malay male. You can have 100 Chinese, Indians and 1 Malay in the competition, in the end the Malay will be the candidate. I have to agree with Michael on how we are wasting RM95million on a stupid space program. We are sending a Malaysian to the space to main gasing and make Teh Tarik… WTF???! RM95 million can repair all the schools in Malaysia, repair that near my house which never seems to be fully repaired (after 2 weeks, there will be another hole), replace all the ancient copper wires in Klang Valley to fix our expensive and unreliable broadband or, you could just place it in a fixed deposit (I think Austrialia is giving 6%?) and use the interest to provide us with more Education Fund. At least doing so my brother don’t have to depend fully on my mother’s EPF for his education in the US next month.

I am really unhappy with the way things are right now… and the way our Government do things. For example, our national car manufacturer - Proton. Why are we still producing and selling Iswara? or Wira? Toyota has stop producing AE86 (the Initial D car) a long time ago. Why is the quality still so bad? Even the latest car… Satria Neo has so much problems. The Government spoon feed Proton and MAS too much. Perudua on the other hand, has improve alot, that’s why I am driving a Perudua MyVi. Yes, it is actually Toyota Passo or the Daihatsu…. something, but Perudua engineers did take part in the design and engineering.

I am also pretty pissed off that we are so far behind Singapore. I still remember the time when RM 1 == SGD 1. Now?!!

Anyway… after reading that article, you also might want to checkout Michael’s reply to all the Malaysians who emailed him regarding the article he wrote, just click here.

*UPDATE 24 November 2006*
I just read an article at Malaysiakini… which makes me wanna vomit more. Our blinded politicians said that Michael as an foreigner don’t understand Malaysia…. well maybe it’s true but I think Michael’s article is a great VOICE for the Raykat.

Infested with flying ants! Luckily got Sheltox!

Nov 17, 2006 in Mumblings

*this is not a Sheltox advertisement.*

I don’t know which word to use… amazing?? scariest?? disgusting?? I was doing my work as usual… (2:30am), then suddenly… those flying ants… I think it’s white ants start attacking me. I thought it’s just a few… so I didn’t care. After about 30 seconds…. the number increase several fold! I realize I am looking at not 10s…but 100s! My first word was SHIT.

I then wake my brother then my parents. Cause this is some serious infestation, the family has to know! Since those insect are attracted to lights and heat, I turn off the lights at my study area, and turn on my staircase light. Then guess what? It wasnt 100s…there were 1000s!!! Ok, picture speak louder than words.

Let’s start with the staircase area….

Ants Attack 1

scary hor? Now look at the wall…

My Dad then use his trusty Sheltox and start spraying like it’s free. Here is at the car park.

The aftermath… thousands of soldiers died that night.

I dont understand, we have Rentokill pest controller coming to our house to inspect every month… I think someone is not doing their job right. I am pretty sure I will get a month free by showing them those evidence.

So guys, keep at least 1 Sheltox in your house. I will be getting a dozen.

Streamyx still unstable…

Oct 12, 2006 in Mumblings

I havent been posting lately… it’s mostly because of my unreliable Streamyx connection. I have reactivated my Jaring dail-up, got myself a TM.NET dail-up starter pack and also registered for a time.net dail-up account. @_@ So just I am moving backwards. After some ping testing, I found out that Jaring still have the most reliable infrastructure. I still get lost packets using tmnet dail up… and their DNS server does not respond sometimes.

I have also bought an Aztech 600E ADSL2/2+ modem (technically it should be call a modem/router), and surprisingly, it does increase my bandwidth to what I am suppose to get… (75% of my allocated bandwidth). So guys, it might be time to upgrade your modem. I got mine from Computer War, SS 2 @ RM99.00. It has a built-in router, firewall and stuff… so it is super value for money for those who does not yet have a router. I personally am using a Linksys Wireless-G router, it seems to be compatible after setting the modem to Bridge mode. But unfortunately, I cant seems to access the admin page of my modem if it is connected to my Linksys router. I probably need a firmware update…

Now, all I can do is to wait for the technicians to change my port. :/

TMNET: A step backwards

Oct 02, 2006 in Mumblings

We were asked to change our lifestyle when the fuel price shot up, and now I suppose I have to change my lifestyle and use back dail-up instead of ADSL. TMNET support staff are polite but unhelpful. This afternoon I received a call regarding my SECOND report for the past 7 days. The woman on the phone say the technician have reseted the port.

I quickly said that this is the 2nd time! Reseting the port will NOT solve the problem it will only ease the pain…for 30 minutes MAX! She also mention about me being able to connect for 8 hours straight on my 1st report. Well, what’s the point if I am connected for 8 hours but having a 20% loss packet??! After some discussion she said the technician will look into the problem. @_@ No timeframe on when it will be resolved.

Guess what? I was right after all. After I hang up, I reset my router and do a ping test to tm.net.my. Woohoo! Even ping to google.com comes back to less than 100ms latency. That is really really good. No lost packet as well.

30 minutes later…

Hey… what’s happening? Why is my gmail stuck? Why I cant access yahoo? Why there is a 100% loss packet? At the very moment of writing, I am actually using TIME.NET free dailer to access Internet. Yes, I am “changing” my lifestyle…. Last night I did try to play Dota with TM.NET dail-up, and yes it was much more RELIABLE and no loss packet. I manage to finish the game without any latency (on the other hand, TIME.NET dail-up lags). So in this example, Dail-up owned Streamyx ADSL. I emailed Jaring to request for my lost dail-up password and am also planning to buy a prepaid TMNET dail-up card. I have no choice. I depend alot on my Internet connection at home… for work and for leisure. So it is CRUCIAL that I am connected!

I will wait till tomorrow morning before I make my THIRD report on Streamyx. Why can’t they do it right on the 1st time huh? Wasting resources and my precious time.

TMNET support improved but Streamyx quality still sucks

Oct 01, 2006 in Mumblings

I called Telekom Malaysia (TM) to fix my line a couple of days ago, and it was done in 24 hours. Even my call to number 100 was answered within a minute. I was pretty impressed.

I also called TMNET regarding my frequent disconnection problem. Again, my call was answered within 2 minutes, which is a big improvement. I remember those days where I have to wait for more than half an hour or suddenly I get hang-up…and have to queue again!

Lately I am having disconnection problem, where my ADSL led will start blinking after maybe.. 10 minutes or so. That issue was fix this morning, but now I am having lost packets problem! I have called and made another report today. Basically, the ADSL led will not blink anymore, but by consistently ping-ing a website (I tried to ping www.tm.net.my) I got 15%-20% of my data packets… lost. Even 1% is very bad!! Because of this, I no longer can play Dota. :(

Well, the support staff of TMNET has improved, but sadly the Quality-of-Service of TMNET broadband infrastructure is still ‘light years’ behind. I really hope they will invest more on providing better quality connections rather than focusing on increasing subscribers. TMNET have virtually monopolized the ADSL industry, they have the RESPONSIBILITY to increase quality. I remember I used to be able to play BNET(connecting to US West server) via Jaring Dail-up service with a lactency of below 300ms. Now, that number is almost impossible to get with Streamyx.
