Israel attacks Lebanon, creating hatred and pain…

Jul 23, 2006 in Philosophy, Lebanon, Israel

Israel may say they are doing surgical strikes all they want, actions speak louder than words. They shouldn’t be targeting essential infrastructure (power, roads, TV/Radio stations) which thousands of Lebanese are depending on in critical time like this. Destroying those infrastructure may deter Hezbollah but it is torturous for civilians. Saying Hezbollah hiding within civilian populations doesn’t justify Israel’s actions. War… never changes. It only creates generations of hatred and pain….

Israel war on Lebanon

I personally know two Lebanese while I was working at a Italian restaurant in UK. I was pursuing my degree and was working there during the summer holidays. They are beautiful looking girls I must say, and fun to work with.

*They were students like me.*

*They are civilians like me.*

*They are just as human as me.*

The people who are and will suffer the most are people like them. Not Hezbollah. After this war Hezbollah may be gone but this will not make the middle east especially Israel a safer place. This war will only create generations of hatred and pain not only within Lebanon, Israel as well.

Students unaware of breast risks

Jul 16, 2006 in Tips, Health

Why is this post here? Dunno… just thought that it is important and people should know about this. This article “Students unaware of breast risks” is at BBC News website. What interest me are the steps involve in cutting the risk of breast cancer.

###CUTTING THE RISK###
* Breastfeed
* Have several children, and have them young
* Stay in shape
* Eat and drink healthily
* Don’t smoke

Woman nowadays are getting married at an older age, late 20s or early 30s… and having her first child…. early/mid 30s? Breastfeeding…. not so much nowdays huh? The only thing which I could see improving in Malaysia is “Stay in shape”. Thanks to FitnessFirst for setting the trend and providing the facilities. Now we have a oversupply of fitness centres I think. But at least they are helping Malaysian to get fit!

EasyEclipse - Free, open source, easy-to-use Eclipse distribution

Jul 13, 2006 in PHP, Java, Open Source, Free, Subversion

EasyEclipse Previously in this post, I mention about using Eclipse with PHPEclipise plug-in. Well, good news to those who are interested but find it too difficult to install the plugin. EasyEclipse is a Eclipse distribution with tested plugins and packages ready for you! There are a number of distribution available, for example… Mobile Java, Desktop Java, LAMP environment, PHP and so on. Go check it out! They even have the Subversion plugin installed!

The PHP distribution have very similar plugins as what I am using now on my desktop… the difference is I took hours to set it up.

Picking up the pieces

Jul 08, 2006 in Software Engineering, PHP

What is worst then reinventing the wheel? Correcting “SHIT” codes…. -_-”

I am doing this emergency development (or fixing) of a Social Network web application. It is written by someone irresponsible… very irresponsible. He was partnering with this veteran company to develop this project, then all the sudden he stop developing it and got himself out of the partnership and even DARE to request for the rest of the payment. He is already 2 weeks off the DEADLINE.

After examining his work, now I know why he call it quits. He developed a piece of crap. I might sound harsh but it is true. He uses outdated Template engine, and a very old version of ADOdb. The way he architect the application could never be able to scale and meet the requirements of a successful social network. So now I have to fix everything in less than a week…. during World Cup finals’ week!!! This is torturing!!!

Anyway, I have to fix this up. First off… by replacing the ADOdb with the latest stable version. It looks like a Malaysian developed this piece of high quality database abstraction library for PHP. :)

Laptop stolen right under her nose

Jul 07, 2006 in Philosophy, Tips

Take a look at this video I found at metacafe. It is a footage from the company’s CCTV. Hope we will be able to proactively reduce this kind of crime. The data in laptops are soooooooo important! So, do backup your data on a desktop machine or your company’s file server… maybe GMail as well.

Subversion 1.3.2 on Apache2 “the requested operation has failed”

Jul 04, 2006 in Tips, Subversion, Apache

Finally manage to make it run! Phew! There seems to be a bug in subversion which makes it impossible to load subversion modules even after you copied them to the Apache2’s module folder. I was following the instruction from this page: . It is a little dated but it has simple step-by-step instruction. Just follow the instruction given by that link with the below amendments.

*need to load mod\_dav\_fs.so as well*

LoadModule dav\_fs\_module modules/mod\_dav\_fs.so

*you have to explictly stat the location of this two modules rather than copying them to Apache2 module folder*

LoadModule dav\_svn\_module ../../Subversion/bin/mod\_dav\_svn.so

LoadModule authz\_svn\_module ../../Subversion/bin/mod\_authz\_svn.so

Free Cash Flow Calculator, Sample business plans

Jul 03, 2006 in Tips, Entrepreneur, Free

While scratching my head writing my business plan, reading a nitfy e-book, it recommended me this little tool which looks beautiful. The Cash Flow Calculator is a beautifully crafted interactive tool for entrepreneur and financial analyst alike. If you goto the domain at , there are lots of free business plans and resources to check out. I am pretty sure those information could be adapted for a Malaysia business plan.

Yahoo! looking yummy

Jul 03, 2006 in Tips, Open Source, Free

I am a big fan of Google, I use Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Earth, Google Search, Google AdSense, Google Analytics, Google Talk, Google Desktop, Google Toolbar… and all those Google stuff. Somehow… I am addicted to Google’s tools. This is my “end-user” point of view.

As a web developer, I would prefer a company which provide free and open APIs… preferable allow commercial application as well. At the moment, I would think Yahoo! is on higher ground. I absolutely love Yahoo! Design Pattern Libary! If only Google have a similar resource. I guess I will look into other Yahoo! services more from now on.

I was searching for statistic regarding number of pupils in Malaysia schools but found this link about racial discrimination in Malaysia instead. I don’t know the accuracy of the report but here is the link anyway.
