I am using Gmail so…there’s a link on the upper half left side of the screen, “Add to Calendar”. This link does not seems to appear on all my emails, rather only emails with specific keywords… I suppose.

When I link on “Add to Calendar”, a popup appears and it automatically use the Email subject as the title, set the time to 10am and even set the “where” with the details in the venue part of the email!

I am guessing that Google’s Calendar got this smart text search or something… or… am I just kidding myself??

Check it out yourself by enabling Google’s Calendar.

The price of mineral water

Jun 24, 2006 in Philosophy, Money

Something I heard about during the workshop at Cyberjaya.

1 Litre of bottled mineral water = **RM1.50 - RM2.00**

1 Litre of unleaded petrol = **RM1.92**

Something is not right isn’t it? Either mineral water is too expensive or petrol is just too cheap.

Just spent RM415 on a notebook 1GB DDR333 RAM! Expensive… but it was a needed investment. I will be using my notebook as a development machine for now.

Day 1 of business plan development workshop

Jun 22, 2006 in Entrepreneur

It has been a long long time since I wake up at 7:30 in the morning. I watched Argentina VS Holland game on that night, so I manage to sleep for like 1 and the half hours? Luckily the workshop was informative and somewhat interesting, and I manage power nap during lunch. Malaysia is really trying to push ICT even today, I learnt about the various funding options and training available at the MDC headquarters.

I also met many people, some just started their business, some still working for their boss and one having a semester break for his 2nd year. There are around 15 of us attending this FREE workshop. Lunch and tea breaks provided!

One of the main lessons I learnt today is the CVP or Customer Value Proposition. Let me give you an example I learnt today.

*Candles*

Yes candles. It started out as an item for religous purpose and lighting. Their main market was churches, but now it is a billion dollar business with market in gift shops, department stores and etc… Well, cause now… the CVP for candles is “The candle light experience”. It is no longer use only for religous purpose or for emergency lighting purpose…. we use it for…. *the candle light experience*. Romantic candle light dinner, candles with aroma just to name a few.

So… now I have to figure out what will be my CVP….

The speaker also gave us an interesting look into big companies like HP, Sony, 3M and Virgin. I think I will continue this tmr… sleeping liao.

20062006

Jun 20, 2006 in Philosophy, Events, Fun

I just received a SMS from a friend a moment ago. It appears that today is a … special day. 20th of June 2006 is written as 20062006 in most part of Asia where the format is DDMMYYYY rather than MMDDYYYY in the west. The messege which I got say this only comes once in a lifetime… but after some thought… I think I should be able to live long enough to see 20072007, 20082008, 20092009, 20102010, 20112011 and 20122012.

How to kill extra time

Jun 17, 2006 in Tips, Funny, Fun, Free

In the world of football (aka soccer), you can kill time by playing possession football… where the footballers just pass the ball around. Seriously, there’s no sportmanship and it will really kill the glory of football. I know they just wanna “play safe”, but it kills to watch a game which ends like that.

On the other hand, if you are not a footballer. You could read manga (Japanese comics) online for FREE at http://www.anime-source.com and checkout other ways by clicking on categories like fun, funny, and tips.

IntelliJ IDEA - My favourite Java IDE

Jun 17, 2006 in Java, Tips

IntelliJ IDEA LogoLooks like I am back with developing in Java. I have been using IDEA 5.0 for a while now, so I went to JetBrains website to download the latest version, 5.1.2. IDEA requires a commercial license and some of their plugins are commercial as well, so be prepare to pay for it. At USD499 per license, it is very expensive. But to me, Eclipse SDK is still not as good as IDEA in certain areas which… I think makes programming more enjoyable. Eclipse is open-source, free and have lots of community and big companies support. Personally, I use Eclipse with a PHP plugin to do my PHP stuff.

I would love to brag about the goodness of IDEA and compare it with Eclipse, but I think a quick Google would do much better. :)

oh ya… IDE means Integrated Development Environment. You can’t possibly program anything serious without the help of an IDE. It reduce errors, bugs and increases your productivity, the bigger the application, the bigger the “Goodness”.

Enough of MSN!

Jun 16, 2006 in Friends, Tips

I think MSN server has been overloaded. @_@ It takes ages to connect and every few moment you will get disconnected. I will be installing GoogleTalk now. Why google? well firstly is their cool chat integration into GMail. If you have a gmail account… which you SHOULD, you can actually just sign-in there and chat. You don’t even need to download the desktop client. But I will be installing it now cause it’s a very simple and clean IM client. With Google having one of the biggest server farm in the world, I am sure they are overcapacity rather than overloaded. :’)

Patch IT awarded PIM synchronization project

Jun 16, 2006 in Java, Open Source

After 1 1/2 months of dry session with projects stuck at pending phase, Patch IT have secured a Personal Information Management(PIM) synchronization project. This project will involve creating a VCalendar/VCard standard generator for a Java Enterprise suite, and new sync modules using Funambol (previously Sync4j) DS Server. I have previously did a project which involve synchronization with Nokia communicator.

This new module will synchronize between the enterprise suite and Microsoft Outlook. PIM data like contacts, appointments and task will be synchronized. Technically, it would take little effort to add support for new devices like smartphones, Blackberry and other SyncML compatible devices after this module is completed. The complicated conflict resolution for this project will be the biggest headache….

Free Internet Marketing Resource and e-Books

Jun 14, 2006 in Tips, Money, Entrepreneur

Zinio Reader I have been getting free Revenue e-magazine for sometime from Zinio. Zinio will be and is the next best thing to a real magazine or book. Big publishers like Penthouse, Reader’s Digest are all using Zinio as their e-version of their publication. Open an account now and subscribe to their free business magazines. If you are into Internet Marketing and bounty hunting (which is really booming at the moment), you should really subscribe to Revenue.

The reader is really cool and user-friendly, I would say it is better than PDF reader. What I like most from this Zinio reader is the 1 click zoom in and out. For example, I view the magazine page by page, when I want to close in a particular section I just click on that section to zoom in…. then click again to zoom out. erm… what’s so innovative about that? Well, using PDF reader I have to do a couple of clicks to achieve the same thing and if I use the shortcut keys, I need *both hands*. =)
